    The two top teams in the East did not disappoint. After nearly two and a half periods of back-and-forth hockey, Avangard pulled away with this one in the third, benefiting from some shaky goaltending by Traktor's Andrei Mezin.

    Led tonight by Sergei Kalinin and Tomas Zaborsky, who scored his twelfth of the season on a penalty shot, Avangard now takes the outright lead in the Eastern Conference with 59 points.
